Report: Rockets table offer to Motiejunas, who may consider overseas
The Houston Rockets' latest offer to restricted free-agent big man Donatas Motiejunas is a multi-year deal that features a fully guaranteed $7 million in season one, sources told ESPN's Marc Stein.
The 7-foot Lithuanian hasn't played this season as he remains in contractual limbo. Motiejunas and the Rockets allowed his $4.4-million qualifying offer to expire last month. While Stein reports incentives could take Houston's contract offer into the $8-million range, Motiejunas hasn't ruled out playing overseas this season.
"It's always good to have a Plan B," he said, according to ESPN's Calvin Watkins.
The Rockets are reluctant to guarantee more money beyond year one because of the back injury that voided Motiejunas' trade to the Detroit Pistons last season, according to Stein.
The 26-year-old cannot be traded this season if he is signed after Nov. 23, perhaps putting more onus on the Rockets to get a deal done as his market value would drop.
