Report: Mavericks' Barea to miss 6 weeks due to leg injury
The Dallas Mavericks will be without one of their top contributors for quite some time.
J.J. Barea told El Nuevo Dia he's expected to miss roughly six weeks with a left leg ailment.
The point guard suffered a non-contact injury late during Wednesday's 90-83 loss to the Boston Celtics. It was initially diagnosed as a left calf strain, but the 32-year-old revealed Thursday he suffered a tear in a muscle between his left calf and Achilles tendon.
"Thank God there is no damage to the Achilles tendon and no surgery is required," he told the Puerto Rican news outlet, as translated by ESPN.
Still, Barea needs to take a whole month off to rest, and will wear a walking boot for the time being.
He's been averaging a career-high 16.3 points to go along with 5.4 assists and 3.4 rebounds in 33 minutes.
This injury comes at a terrible time for the 2-8 Mavs, who are now without all three of their point guards: Deron Williams, Devin Harris, and Barea. Seth Curry figures to get extended minutes in the meantime.
Franchise player Dirk Nowitzki also remains sidelined.
