Popovich moves into 7th place all time with 1,099 coaching wins
With Friday's victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs has moved into seventh place on the NBA's all-time regular season coaching wins list with 1,099 victories, surpassing Larry Brown.
Popovich now sits 56 wins behind Phil Jackson for sixth place, something he could conceivably reach this season, but more likely next. Jackson is 20 victories behind fifth-place George Karl.
| Coach | Regular-season wins |
|---|---|
| Don Nelson | 1335 |
| Lenny Wilkens | 1332 |
| Jerry Sloan | 1221 |
| Pat Riley | 1210 |
| George Karl | 1175 |
| Phil Jackson | 1155 |
| Gregg Popovich | 1099 |
Unlike all the names in the top six, Popovich has logged each victory of his career with one franchise. The former Spurs' general manager took over the coaching reins of the team on Dec. 10, 1996, and has been there ever since.
