Pelicans' Holiday on Davis: 'My man can score on 10 people'
Since Jrue Holiday returned a week ago, the New Orleans Pelicans have won four straight by an average margin of 13.5 points. Holiday's a key reason, but the catalyst, of course, has been Anthony Davis.
Brow's 45-point performance in Wednesday's 117-96 thumping of the Minnesota Timberwolves was his third 40-plus outing of the season, and he's averaging 33 points, 9.5 rebounds, and almost three blocks per contest during the win streak.
Asked if this is the best he's seen Davis play, Holiday agreed that his teammate has reached that rare zone.
"Everybody could say that," Holiday said, according to ESPN's Justin Verrier. "My man can score on 10 people."
While Holiday's arrival from tending to his wife's medical situation - and the nearing return of Tyreke Evans - is a big shot in the arm for the team, everyone knows the Pelicans will only go as far as Davis carries them.
And Davis is certainly carrying the Pelicans so far. After a bit of a dip last season, he's back to producing at the 2014-15 level that saw him finish with a 30.8 player efficiency rating - the 12th highest in NBA history. With the league now breaking for Thanksgiving, he sits second in the circuit in scoring.
"I'm amazed every time by the shots he's able to do (through) double-teams and triple-teams," point guard Tim Frazier said. "It's an MVP performance."
Still, there's a long way to go, and Davis has yet to play more than 68 games in a season during his five-year NBA career. Going into Friday, the Pelicans are 6-10, good for 12th in the Western Conference. And with postseason stalwarts like the Dallas Mavericks and Portland Trail Blazers stumbling so far, there's an opening to crack the tournament.
Yet, as we've seen in the past - so goes Davis, so go the Pelicans.
