Dirk's shot doctor invites Giannis to Germany for training session
Giannis Antetokounmpo is averaging 22.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 2.2 steals, and 2.1 blocks five days before his 22nd birthday, leaving many to wonder what kind of unstoppable force the Greek Freak could be with a jump shot.
If a famous German shot doctor has his way, we may not have to wonder much longer.
Antetokounmpo said Thursday that Holger Geschwindner, revered in basketball circles for his longtime work with Dirk Nowitzki, has invited Antetokounmpo to train with he and Dirk in Germany, according to CBS' James Herbert.
Whether Giannis will take Geschwindner up on his offer, and whether it will fix his broken jumper, remains to be seen, but Bucks fans can dream.
Since shooting 34.7 percent from deep as a rookie, Antetokounmpo has shot 22.5 percent on 3-point attempts over the last three seasons, and he's knocked down only 30 of his 108 attempts outside of five feet this season.
That he's been able to put together an unprecedented campaign thus far without the benefit of a respectable jumper, is impressive in its own right. But Geschwindner, like the rest of us, likely understands the rarely reached level of greatness Antetokounmpo is capable of with some range in his offensive repertoire.
