Timberwolves blow 9-point lead in final minute of regulation
The Minnesota Timberwolves hit a new low on Saturday night.
Having led by double-digits for most of the second half, the Timberwolves led 93-84 with less than a minute to go in regulation against the Houston Rockets.
That's when it all fell apart.
The comeback started with Eric Gordon getting a quick two. On the ensuing possession, Karl-Anthony Towns made a bad pass that led to a wide-open three for Trevor Ariza which cut the lead to four.
Towns made amends by making two free throws, but the Rockets executed beautifully out of a timeout by getting Ryan Anderson an open three. The Wolves promptly answered with a wild drive by Zach LaVine that went nowhere, which set up the dagger.
James Harden broke down Minnesota's absent defense before finding Ariza for the game-tying shot.
That still left the Timberwolves six seconds to work up a game-winner, but Andrew Wiggins ended up launching a half-court heave following some pesky defense from the Rockets.
More misery followed in the overtime frame, as the Timberwolves trailed early thanks to a 7-0 run from Harden, only to launch a furious comeback of their own. They got the ball back down two with three seconds to go, but LaVine stepped out of bounds to wrap up their miserable night with a 111-109 loss.
