Report: Dunleavy to join Hawks after being convinced by Budenholzer
Mike Dunleavy may be joining the Atlanta Hawks after all.
The small forward was traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Kyle Korver deal, but was rumored to be seeking a buyout rather than reporting to the Hawks.
However, after speaking with head coach Mike Budenholzer about his role on the team, Dunleavy will indeed join the Hawks, sources told Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical. He'll take his physical Tuesday in Atlanta, but won't join the club for its tilt with the Nets in Brooklyn.
The 36-year-old was shipped to the ATL along with Mo Williams' contract and a protected 2019 first-round pick. Dunleavy apparently sought a buyout because he didn't feel wanted by the Hawks until Coach Bud convinced him otherwise, per Wojnarowski's sources.
The 15-year veteran earns $4.8 million in 2017-18, and is guaranteed $1.6 million next season. He joined the Cavs over the past offseason but struggled to produce for the defending champs, scoring a career low 4.6 points per game on 40 percent shooting from the field.
The Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets were among the teams reportedly interested in signing Dunleavy had he become available in free agency.
