Celtics' Horford never went to Falcons games, rooting for Patriots
Al Horford is endearing himself to Boston Celtics fans, while burning bridges with Atlanta Hawks supporters.
The 30-year-old center signed in Beantown last summer after spending the first nine years of his NBA career in Atlanta.
Despite living in the ATL for almost a decade, he never attended a single Atlanta Falcons game, according to A. Sherrod Blakely of Comcast SportsNet. The four-time All-Star is throwing his support behind the New England Patriots to take down the Falcons in Super Bowl LI.
"I'm here in New England now so I’ll be cheering for the Patriots," he said.
Horford's not the only Celtic who has ties to Atlanta and will also be cheering on the Patriots to win it all Feb. 5. Jae Crowder was born in Villa Rica, Ga., and grew up following the local team.
"I've been cheering for the Falcons all my life," the small forward said. "I'm here in Boston; I've been a Patriots fan."
