Melo on LeBron: 'I think he'd want me to play with him'

LeBron James continues to beg Cleveland Cavaliers management for another playmaker. Could Carmelo Anthony fill that role?

Anthony was quizzed by reporters in Dallas on Wednesday about James' latest pleas to upper brass, and the fellow Banana Boat crew member left the door open.

"You ask me a question if he thinks I'd want to play with him?" Anthony said, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post. "Yes. I do think he'd want me to play with him. I don't think he wouldn't. But I don't know if that comment was about me. I don't think I'm the only playmaker in the NBA."

Anthony later reiterated that he is not actively seeking a move to Cleveland to be alongside his good friend.

"I don't think about it - not something I think about right now. As far as playing with him, I don't think about that," he said. "I can't think about that. You know I'm not thinking about that."

Anthony would definitely fit the bill as another playmaker for the Cavs, but any trade between the two teams would be extremely difficult to pull off. For starters, Anthony has a no-trade clause and a hefty trade kicker that would bump up his already considerable salary. Cleveland is also over the salary cap and would need to send a sizable number of contracts to New York for the move to work.

The popular hypothetical notion of swapping Anthony for Kevin Love would work financially, but Love is younger, cheaper, and outplaying Anthony at the moment. Berman also notes that the Cavs have no intention of moving Love, echoing a report earlier Tuesday.
