Embiid reacts to All-Star snub: 'Once again the popular vote didn't matter'
The people spoke, but their voices weren't heard. Sound familiar?
Rookie Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers garnered enough fan support (third in frontcourt voting) to earn a spot on the Eastern Conference All-Star roster this year, but only in theory due to the league changing the voting process to include both players and select members of the media.
His last shot at making the team came Thursday night, but the NBA's 30 coaches decided it just wasn't his time as he was left off the East reserves.
Had the power remained solely in the hands of fans, the 22-year-old "Process"-driven center would be competing in New Orleans on Feb. 19. As was to be expected, Embiid took to social media - where he absolutely killed it trying to gain votes in the weeks leading up to the roster unveiling - to crack a joke over his All-Star snub.
That date with the mystery woman (Rihanna?) he was gunning for just wasn't in the cards ...
