Squad Up's Monday Big Kahuna could send a wave of cash your way

Squad Up

Mid-winter Mondays can be tough, especially if your favorite NFL team blew a 25-point lead in the Super Bowl the night before. That's why Squad Up is giving away $100 in cash prizes in our Big Kahuna contest.

Monday's winner will receive $40, with second place taking home $13 - not bad for a few minutes of work. Prizes are paid out to 500th place - so even if you don't finish near the top, you still have a chance at taking something home. And best of all, the game is absolutely free! That's right, it costs you zero dollars to participate. You don't pay us - we pay you.

The path to riches, fame and glory is a simple one: download the Squad Up app, get your account set up and start playing contests immediately! Choose your five-player team consisting of one player from each position, stay within the $300K cap, then watch as your players accumulate fantasy points.

Looking for some advice to get you started? Here is a look at the Squad Up daily NBA fantasy picture for Monday, Feb. 6:

Dynamic Duos

  • C Nikola Jokic (74K) & PF Kenneth Faried (50K), Nuggets (vs. Mavericks): The team with the best rebounding rate (Denver, 53.7%) faces the team with the worst (Dallas, 46.6%). Their respective strengths and flaws should be even more pronounced on Monday. It wouldn't be a shock for either or both of Jokic and Faried to record double-double performances.
  • PG Kyle Lowry (89K) & C Jonas Valanciunas (62K), Raptors (vs. Clippers): Lowry continues to shoulder the load with DeMar DeRozan dealing with ankle issues. His job is made much easier with Chris Paul out of action. Valanciunas will see looks in the paint to keep the Clippers' bigs on their heels.
  • PG Jeff Teague (73K) & C Myles Turner (65K), Pacers (vs. Thunder): Cheaper on aggregate than the Raptors' duo, Teague and Turner work hand-in-hand as the Pacers' primary distributor and interior scorer/rebounder. Of course, they work in the margins around superstar Paul George, but that also means that they'll rarely be the focal point of the opponent's defensive efforts.

Bargain Plays

  • PF Davis Bertans (25K), Spurs (at Grizzlies): Bertans is priced right at the salary floor despite scoring 11 or more points in four of his past seven games. The lean Latvian has shot 41.9% on 3-point attempts in that span, a skill that will aid him against an interior-oriented Grizzlies defense.
  • C Lavoy Allen (27K), Pacers (vs. Thunder): Allen picked up a spot start with Thaddeus Young (wrist) out. He wound up having one of the best games of his career, finishing with an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double in 32 minutes of action. Don't expect a carbon-copy repeat, even with Young out again, but it wouldn't be a shock to see the Pacers turn to him again considering how well things went in Saturday's win.
  • SG Langston Galloway (25K), Pelicans (vs. Suns): Galloway has fallen to the edge of the rotation but the team hasn't won in four straight games. He's eclipsed the 20-point mark five times this season, so he's still a tournament play. He could see increased minutes if the Pelicans decide that a shakeup is in order.

Top Fades

  • PG Russell Westbrook (125K), Thunder (at Pacers): Westbrook plays his second game in as many nights, going on the road against a defense anchored by Paul George on the perimeter and Myles Turner in the paint. He's nearly 20K more expensive than the second-priciest option on the slate (DeMarcus Cousins). It's impossible for him to return tournament value under these circumstances.
  • C Anthony Davis (98K), Pelicans (vs. Suns): Whether it has to do with game flow or the presence of veteran center Tyson Chandler, Davis has failed to live up to his potential against the Suns this season. While he's averaging 27.8 points and 12.2 rebounds overall, he's averaged just 18-and-11 in two games against Phoenix. Don't be on the wrong side of his developing trend.
  • PG Mike Conley (72K), Grizzlies (vs. Spurs): Conley is the Grizzlies' top perimeter scoring threat, shooting 39.7% on 3s this year. The Spurs have held opponents to the second-lowest 3-point percentage, just 33.9%. It will be tough for Conley to find his groove with great defenders like Danny Green, Patty Mills and Kawhi Leonard swarming him on every possession.

Contrarian Options

  • SF Jimmy Butler (87K), Bulls (at Kings): A heel injury has Butler questionable to play; combined with the second-highest salary at his position, many will elect to fade the Bulls' star. The Kings have the sixth-worst defensive efficiency rating in the NBA and lost their best wing defender this year - Rudy Gay - to injury. If Butler plays, expect fireworks.
  • PF Kristaps Porzingis (60K), Knicks (vs. Lakers): Porzingis has been struggling, both in terms of scoring and overall health. The Lakers' frontcourt has question marks of its own. Julius Randle has taken a step back of late and the team has been giving major minutes to rookie Ivica Zubac. Porzingis should see a return to cash game value.
  • SG Austin Rivers (49K), Clippers (at Raptors): Rivers is coming off a five-point dud in Boston last night in which he shot just 1-for-8 from the field. In the nine games prior, he had averaged a line close to 17-2-4. Sure, the Clippers might be tired on the second half of a back-to-back, but so are the Raptors, who played in Brooklyn yesterday afternoon.
