Report: Lakers, Celtics among teams who have inquired about George
The Los Angeles Lakers continue to remain active ahead of Thursday's trade deadline.
While talks didn't go far, the Lakers were among the teams who expressed interest in trading for Indiana Pacers small forward Paul George, league sources tell ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.
A free agent at the end of next season, George has the ability to sign a $219-million extension this summer, but was noncommittal when asked about the possibility of signing a deal with the Pacers this July.
Los Angeles has been busy since hiring Rob Pelinka as general manager and promoting Magic Johnson to team president earlier this week, trading sixth man Lou Williams to the Houston Rockets on Tuesday.
The Pacers have recently invited teams to make pitches for George prior to Thursday's deadline, listening to offers from both the Lakers and Boston Celtics, according to Shelburne.
Reports last week indicated that Indiana had also made its first-round pick available in hopes of adding an established player to play next to George.
The 26-year-old said on Wednesday that he "had great talks" with Indiana's front office, and that he's committed to the Pacers organization going forward.
