Oscar Robertson hopes Westbrook averages triple-double
Oscar Robertson won't lose any sleep if Russell Westbrook joins him in the triple-double club.
After standing as the only NBA player to average a triple-double for more than 50 years, the Cincinnati Royals great said he won't mind if Westbrook manages to match his mind-blowing accomplishment this season.
"I wouldn't care. I hope he gets it," Robertson told Shaun Powell on NBA TV. "Why should should I care, man? I hope he does. I think it's great to talk about it."
Westbrook has put up historic numbers through the first three quarters of the season, averaging 31.2 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 10.3 assists in 60 games. The six-time All-Star recorded his 30th triple-double of the year earlier this week, putting him on pace to match Robertson's single-season record of 41.
Although much has been made of Westbrook's quest to match Robertson, the All-Star guard doesn't seem too concerned with individual accolades, telling reporters earlier this season that all the triple-double talk was "getting on his nerves."
While Westbrook's detractors have criticized the MVP candidate for chasing history, his individual play has often had a positive effect on Oklahoma City's record, with the Thunder winning 80 percent of the contests in which Westbrook has recorded a triple-double.
