Iguodala stresses he wasn't talking about Kerr: 'I have a great relationship with Steve'

Andre Iguodala was fined $10,000 by the NBA head office Monday for inappropriate comments he made to the media after Friday's loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Yet while the fine was mostly over his use of the N-word, the Golden State Warriors swingman was repeatedly asked Monday about a comment that indirectly referred to head coach Steve Kerr as "master".

Iguodala shot down any suggestion that there was a sinister connotation to racially-loaded term.

"I have a great relationship with Steve Kerr," he told reporters, including the Bay Area News Group's Anthony Slater. "And he knows that. He spoke to you guys about it. But Steve in his words still may not be ... someone still may not believe him. But he and I are in a great place. We don't even have to speak about it because in no way shape or form was I talking about him."

Kerr humorously told reporters Saturday that they "got Andre'd".

Iguodala's original comments came following a 103-102 defeat in Minnesota, and after he was notified by reporters that Kerr would rest him, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green the next night in San Antonio.

"It probably was the wrong time to express myself," Iguodala said. "We all have our own opinions, we all have our own feelings. I feel like we’re entitled to them. We just try to pick and choose the time to do it and who you share it with. Because some may not understand where you're coming from, which is to be expected."

Golden State lost to the Spurs also, ending a brutal stretch of its schedule that saw the team play eight games in 13 days, seven of which on the road. The Warriors went 3-5 and posted the seventh-worst offensive rating in the league during that period, hitting under 30 percent of their 3-point shots.
