LaVar dismisses LeBron's warning: What's it going to do? Nothing
LeBron James isn't getting an apology anytime soon.
LaVar Ball, father of UCLA standout Lonzo Ball, caught a nerve when he chatted about the future of James' children. The King issued a stern warning to keep the children out of it, but the loudmouthed LaVar could hardly be bothered.
"Apologize for what?" LaVar said on SiriusXM College Sports. "I don't apologize for nothing."
LaVar then reiterated his original point, saying James shouldn't have taken any offense to any comments, and that James' warning was largely hollow.
"I don't care what LeBron said. He talking about he warned me. He warned me for what? What is a warning going to do? Nothing.
"Now, if he get a little touchy because I gave an opinion on what I felt about no superstars' kids really being superstars and the fact that they have to live up to their parents or to their fathers or whatever.
"I have yet to see one, and I've been around for 50 years. Have you seen one where the superstar's son is just as good or better than him? I said a superstar. I ain't saying just a regular player. I'm talking about a guy who we picture as an icon - a Dr. J, an Allen Iverson, a LeBron James."
That's not how James saw it. He was cool with LaVar's boasting when it concerned him, but James drew the line very clearly at the mentioning of his family.
"Keep my kids' name out of your mouth, keep my family out of your mouth," James said. "This is dad to dad. It's a problem now."
But in LaVar's eyes, he did nothing wrong since he believes he never insulted James' children.
"If somebody asks me a question, I'm gonna give them an answer. Now, if you touchy, I didn't say, 'Oh, your kid is ugly, he can't play a lick.' I didn't say none of that. I said, 'I don't see him being as good as LeBron.'"
Ignoring James' warning could lead to consequences, especially when Lonzo eventually joins the NBA. James' influence also extends far beyond the court, where he holds significant sway over major sponsors and serves as vice president of the NBPA.
