Warriors secure NBA's best 3-year regular-season run
Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and the rest of the Golden State Warriors continue to rack up victories at an extraordinary rate, putting the team in a class by itself when compared to some of the more remarkable runs in NBA history.
The Warriors improved to 65-14 on the season Wednesday with a 120-111 win over the Phoenix Suns. Not only did that secure the Bay Area squad home-court advantage throughout the playoffs, but it solidified what's now the most successful three-year regular-season stretch we've ever seen.
Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls accumulated a 203-43 record from 1995-96 through 1997-98. By beating Phoenix, Golden State is at 205-38 over the last three seasons, with three more games to go in 2016-17 to improve that mark.
Season | Record | Win% | Finish? |
---|---|---|---|
2014-15 | 67-15 | 0.817 | Won NBA Finals (Cavaliers) 4-2 |
2015-16 | 73-9 | 0.890 | Lost NBA Finals (Cavaliers) 3-4 |
2016-17 | 65-14 | 0.823 | ??? |
The Warriors also became the first team to win 65 or more games three years in a row, as well as finish with the best outright win-loss record in the NBA three-straight years since the Boston Celtics did so from 1983-86.
Even with Kevin Durant out of the lineup due to injury, Golden State has managed to string together 13 consecutive victories dating back to March 14, with the four-time scoring champion reportedly set to return Saturday against the New Orleans Pelicans.
