Noah officially suspended 20 games without pay
The NBA announced Saturday morning that New York Knicks center Joakim Noah has been suspended 20 games for violating the terms of the league's Anti-Drug Program by testing positive for Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator LGD-4033.
The disciplinary measure was first reported by The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski late Friday.
NBA rules dictate that a suspension can only begin with the first NBA regular season or playoff game for which the player is eligible and physically able to play. Because Noah is currently classified as injured, his punishment may have to wait. The center was supposed to be re-evaluated at the end of March after undergoing left knee surgery last month. He hasn't played a game since Feb. 4.
If Noah's suspension began immediately, he would serve 10 games this season and 10 games at the start of next season.
Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator LGD-4033 is an over-the-counter non-steroidal supplement intended to have the same - although less-detrimental - effects of anabolic steroids.
Since his Defensive Player of the Year award-winning season in 2014, Noah, now 32, has missed 94 games over the subsequent three campaigns due to various injuries.
