Curry: 'Comical' to say I'm having an off year
Steph Curry is tired of being held to unreasonable standards.
While the Warriors sharpshooter is well aware that Kevin Durant's arrival has caused some of his individual numbers to take a bit of a hit this season, he believes it's absurd that some people consider it an off year.
"I think it's comical that people were saying I'm having a down year," Curry told Bleacher Report's Kevin Ding. "To go black and white and say I'm not having as good a season as I was having last year based on just five points a game or shooting percentage or whatnot ... there are other things that you try to do other than just the eye test to try and help your team win. This year has taught me that, for sure. The accolades and the attention and all that stuff, the hype is cool. But it's really how you feel about your own game.
"Just five fewer points a game," he added. "Who cares?"
While he hasn't been nearly as productive as last season, the 29-year-old has continued to put up big numbers in 2016-17, averaging 25.2 points, 6.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.8 steals, while shooting 40.4 percent from deep. Those numbers almost certainly won't earn him MVP honors, but they're a big reason why Golden State has remained at the forefront of the title discussion - an achievement the 6-foot-3 guard values more than individual awards.
"My perspective is about winning championships. That's the only goal," Curry said. "In a perfect world you'd be able to have a hell of a season, accomplish some historic things, be in that MVP conversation and have your team in position to win a championship.
"It might not always be that perfect every year" he added.
