Towns joins exclusive company in Wolves' season finale
This Karl-Anthony Towns guy might be pretty good.
With his 14th rebound against the Houston Rockets Wednesday night, Towns became the first player since Tim Duncan in 2001-02 to score 2,000 points and pull down 1,000 rebounds in one season.
Duncan was named NBA MVP that year.
What's more, Towns is just the 15th player in NBA history to do so. Thirteen of those players are in the Hall of Fame, and Duncan eventually will be.
Adding his own modern-day dimension to the accomplishment, Towns becomes the first player in league history to supplement 2,000 points and 1,000 boards with at least 100 3-pointers.
Towns had 28 points and 21 rebounds in Minnesota's season-ending 123-118 loss to Houston, and finishes his sophomore campaign with averages of 25.1 and 12.3 - making him the youngest player in NBA history (21) to average 25 points and 10 boards in a season.
