Watch: A look back at the 'We Believe' Warriors
The 2006-07 Dallas Mavericks had the best record in the NBA, the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, the league MVP in Dirk Nowitzki, and all of the momentum on the planet on their side.
Then they encountered the Golden State Warriors in the first round ... and it was all for naught.
The "We Believe" Warriors became the third No. 8 seed in NBA history to knock off a No. 1, eliminating the Mavericks in front of a raucous crowd at Oracle Arena in a blowout 111-86 victory.
A surprising 16-5 run to close the regular season, plus a win on the final night, was enough to secure Golden State a spot in the playoffs.
They were eventually bounced in the second round by the Utah Jazz, but by that point, their spot in the history books had already been cemented.
