Doc on Clippers: 'Blowing it up would not be the right decision'

The Los Angeles Clippers' offseason of uncertainty is underway, and on Wednesday general manager/head coach Doc Rivers took questions about what's next for the franchise.

"We do know blowing it up would not be the right decision," Rivers said, according to AM570 LA's Jason Stewart. "What we do know is that making changes might be."

Talk of "blowing up" the Clippers stems from the fact that the team has never been past the second round of the playoffs, despite having the NBA's third-best regular-season record since 2012. With both Chris Paul and Blake Griffin facing unrestricted free agency this summer, there's a sense that the Lob City era could be over.

"What we have done is proven that we can win," Rivers said. "What we haven't done is proven that we can be the winner."

While some of the Clippers' spring failures have been the result of untimely injuries - especially to Griffin - many have speculated on the team's locker room chemistry the last few years.

Rivers hasn't escaped criticism either, especially in his dual role as coach and GM. Regarding the latter, the organization has little in the way of draft assets, making a ground-up rebuild unlikely at the present time. Most NBA observers expect Paul to re-sign given that he can earn a designated player extension only from the Clippers, while Griffin's status seems less certain.

Sharpshooter J.J. Redick will also be an unrestricted free agent.
