Vince Carter built a room in his house for his rookie
This is veteran leadership at its best.
Memphis Grizzlies head coach David Fizdale praised the qualities of 40-year-old Vince Carter in a recent appearance on "The Jump." Fizdale credited the league's elder statesman for both his play and for going above and beyond to care for his rookies.
"What he meant for our team, for our young guys, was invaluable. What he did for us ..." Fizdale said. "He built a room in his house for Deyonta Davis so anytime he got tired of his apartment, he could go over to Vince's big ol' mansion and hang out with Vince and stay the night and things like that.
"On top of all that the guy still can play, and he really helped us this year, big time. I don't think we would have even made the playoffs without him."
Being a solid vet is one of the biggest reasons why Carter's career has lasted 19 seasons. Someone like Davis, who was 2 years old when Carter made his NBA debut, can pick his brain and even live at his house.
But if a youngin acts up, he also isn't afraid to set some teenagers straight.
