Porzingis 'wants to stay' if Knicks build winning team, says brother
Kristaps Porzingis just wants to win.
Porzingis' brother, Janis, revealed that his sibling has every intention of staying in the Big Apple as long as the Knicks work to build a winning culture in New York.
"Kris wants to stay in New York, he feels at home there. There is no question about it. The only thing he wants is for the Knicks to create an environment where he can develop and grow as a player and win," Janis told ESPN's Ian Begley. "If he were traded he would play out his contract and head into free agency where he can choose his own destiny."
Kristaps echoed a similar sentiment last month, saying he would prefer to stay in New York, but values winning above all else.
Reports surfaced last week indicating the Knicks received trade offers for Porzingis after the 7-foot-3 big man skipped his exit interview with team president Phil Jackson. It's unclear whether New York would actually be willing to deal the Latvian phenom, but Jackson has yet to rule out the possibility.
"Everything has got to be possible, and we have to make sure that if people have something to say, we listen to it, we examine it," Jackson said last month.
The 21-year-old averaged 18.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 0.7 steals on 45 percent shooting during his sophomore campaign.
