Pierce has a laugh over helping Celtics land No. 1 overall pick
Boston Celtics fans already have a special place in their hearts for Paul Pierce, but after this year's NBA draft lottery, they may be inclined to erect a statue of him outside of TD Garden.
The Celtics had the best odds to land the No. 1 overall pick at 25 percent, and did just that on Tuesday night.
Shortly after the draft order was revealed, Pierce - who will retire after 19 seasons, 15 of which came with the Celtics - took to his Twitter account to give himself a pat on the back for helping his former team procure such a valuable asset.
It was during the summer of 2013 when the Celtics traded Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Jason Terry to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks, Kris Joseph, Keith Bogans, and three first-round picks (2014, 2016, and 2018).
Also included in that deal was the right to swap picks in 2017, meaning Boston's top pick was actually Brooklyn's.
The Truth is truly the gift that keeps on giving.
