Celtics' Thomas ruled out for remainder of playoffs with hip injury
If the Boston Celtics are to make a dramatic comeback in this year's Eastern Conference finals, they'll have to do so without their All-Star point guard.
Isaiah Thomas has been ruled out for the remainder of the postseason due to a hip injury he re-aggravated during Game 2 against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night.
The injury - which the team is officially listing as a re-aggravated right femoral-acetabular impingement with labral tear - originally occurred during the third quarter in a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on March 15. It became an issue yet again in the second round of the playoffs during Game 6 against the Washington Wizards.
"Isaiah has worked tirelessly to manage this injury since it first occurred," said Celtics Chief Medical Officer Dr. Brian McKeon. "The swelling increased during the first two games against Cleveland, and in order to avoid more significant long-term damage to his hip, we could no longer allow him to continue."
Thomas finishes the playoffs averaging 23.3 points on 42.5 percent shooting, 6.7 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and 0.9 steals in 34.7 minutes per game.
Game 3 of the ECF against the Cavaliers - who lead the series 2-0 after a dominating 130-86 victory at the TD Garden - goes down Sunday night at Quicken Loans Arena.
