Steve Kerr's son joining Popovich's staff in San Antonio
It's an exciting time to be a Kerr.
In an interview with The Mercury News' Tim Kawakami, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr revealed his son, Nick, will join Gregg Popovich's staff in San Antonio next season as a video coordinator.
The elder Kerr knows basketball is in his son's blood. "He was on my shoulders when we celebrated the championship in '96 at the age of 3-and-a-half. One of my favorite memories. And ever since we've been watching games together on TV and watching tape together at home. He's obsessed just like I am."
Nick played three years of college basketball at San Diego and one year at California, making the team as a walk-on. After his collegiate career concluded at the end of the 2016 season, the 24-year-old worked closely with his father, sitting in on the Warriors' film sessions and practices.
Joining the Spurs is a continuation of the Kerr family's long and fruitful history in San Antonio. Steve, currently taking a step back from his game-day duties as he battles debilitating back pain, played for the Spurs from 1998-01, and then again for his final NBA season in 2002-03, helping Tim Duncan and coach Pop collect their first championship titles in 1999 and 2003.
