If FIBA has its way, the world's NBA stars won't be the only basketballers heading to Tokyo for the 2020 Olympics.
Among proposals that will be added to the slate of medal events, three-on-three basketball is a favorite, according to FIBA secretary general Patrick Baumann.
"The best urban team sport is three-on-three street basketball," Baumann told The Associated Press. "It would certainly be a perfect fit."
Three-on-three is popular in playground form all over the world, and is going mainstream this summer with the launch of the BIG3, a three-on-three league that will feature several former NBA stars.
The decision on the new Olympic sports is expected next week.
