Draymond called Durant in Oracle parking lot after last year's Finals loss

It didn't take long for Draymond Green to realize the Golden State Warriors needed help.

The Warriors power forward revealed Thursday that he began recruiting Kevin Durant immediately following last year's crushing Game 7 Finals loss, making phone calls to both Durant and general manager Bob Myers in the parking lot of Oracle Arena that night.

"If we win the championship, I'm like 99 percent sure we don't get him," Green told ESPN's Zach Lowe. "There are silver linings to everything."

While it took weeks before the deal came to fruition, Durant would ultimately go on a two-year, $54.3-million contract with the Warriors in July, giving Golden State more than enough firepower to enter the 2016-17 season as heavy favorite to win it all.

"I look at it as we lost the Finals, but we ended up with KD," Green said. "That's a helluva consolation prize."

With Durant leading the way, the Warriors are now just a game away from capturing their second title in three years, taking a commanding 3-0 lead into Friday's Game 4 at Quicken Loans Arena.
