Report: Hawks exploring sign-and-trade options for Millsap
Paul Millsap's days with the Atlanta Hawks may be numbered.
After pulling the trigger on a deal to ship off starting center Dwight Howard to the Charlotte Hornets for some spare parts and to save $4 million next year, the team seems ready for a rebuild.
Atlanta could part with its next highest-paid player in Millsap, and is exploring sign-and-trade scenarios involving the 32-year-old, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.
Last month, Millsap declined the $21.5-million player option on his deal for next season to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. New general manager Travis Schlenk suggested last week that the team could let the All-Star walk since "he might get better offers" from other clubs, but it seems the Hawks will try to get some assets in return for him.
Windhorst said there are three or four teams willing to shell out a max deal for Millsap, which would be in the ballpark of $205 million over five years with the Hawks or $154 million over four years elsewhere.
The Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, and Denver Nuggets were named as clubs that are interested in bringing on the 11-year vet, who's coming off a season in which he averaged 18.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.3 steals over 69 games.
In addition to those clubs, the Toronto Raptors were believed to be interested when Atlanta was reportedly entertaining offers for Millsap ahead of February's trade deadline before ultimately deciding to keep him.
