Report: Daryl Morey signs 4-year extension with Rockets
It ain't broke, so the Houston Rockets aren't fixing it.
The club inked general manager Daryl Morey to a four-year extension that will keep him in Houston through the 2021-22 season, sources told Fox 26's Mark Berman.
The club is reportedly trying to lock up its star, James Harden, for the next half-decade, too.
Houston has never had a losing record since Morey took over in 2007 and brought his intense focus on advanced metrics. The team has made the playoffs eight times over the innovative executive's tenure, but hasn't been able to win the West.
The Rockets are coming off a campaign in which they finished third in the West and were eliminated in the conference semifinals at the hands of their neighbors, the San Antonio Spurs. Led by Harden and coach Mike D'Antoni, Houston ran one of the most potent offenses in the league characterized by pace and prolific 3-point shooting.
Morey, who's been known to be aggressive in trades and free agency, recently said he has something up his sleeve to counter the dominance of the Golden State Warriors, who went on a 16-1 run in the postseason to claim their second championship in three years.
