Kerr reiterates Warriors should consider White House visit
They haven't received an invitation yet, but Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr said Wednesday that his team should at least consider a traditional champions visit to the White House.
"I would want to make sure the players gave this really a lot of thought," Kerr told Tim Kawakami on the "The TK Show" podcast. "And everybody knows I've been a very outspoken critic of (President) Trump, and as a result, maybe we won't even get the invitation. But I do think it's very important to consider a potential invitation because I think it could have really positive ramifications if we did go."
Kerr said the same thing last week to ESPN's Zach Lowe, maintaining the institution of the presidency is meant to stand above any one person or political persuasion.
Warriors players including Andre Iguodala have been dismissive of the prospect of a visit while Trump holds office, but Kerr believes its an opportunity to take the high road during a polarizing time in American history.
"I think it could make a statement in a time where there's so much divide and everybody seems to be angry with each other," Kerr said. "It might be a good statement for us to go. And to show that, 'Hey, let's put this aside, put all this partisan stuff aside and personal stuff aside, respect the institution.'"
