James Dolan didn't monitor draft or Porzingis while rocking out with his band
On the night of the NBA draft and with rumors swirling regarding a Kristaps Porzingis trade, New York Knicks owner James Dolan instead opted to play a gig with his band, JD & The Straight Shot, at Manhattan's City Winery.
But even with Dolan's scheduling conflict, one might expect him to still be invested in major franchise decisions. The opposite, however, seems to be the true state of affairs.
With the gig and NBA draft unexpectedly scheduled for the same date, Dolan acknowledged his disengagement with the team, how he wasn't following the draft, and that he had no idea if Porzingis was likely to be dealt or not.
"I don't know. It tells you how uninvolved I am with the basketball team," said Dolan to SB Nation's Charlotte Wilder. When asked if he was following the draft, Dolan offered nothing more than "nope" as a response.
While Dolan's absence could be seen as negative, one almost has to applaud him for removing himself from the Knicks' inner operations. Nobody wants to see another Charles Oakley incident at the Madison Square Garden anytime soon.
