Report: Mavericks exercise Yogi Ferrell's team option for 2017-18

The Dallas Mavericks exercised the 2017-18 team option worth $1.3 million on point guard Yogi Ferrell's contract, sources told ESPN's Tim MacMahon.
Ferrell was an excellent contributor for the Mavericks after joining the team in January. The 24-year-old averaged 11.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists while shooting 40.3 percent from deep across 36 appearances in Dallas.
That stretch includes 29 starts and a handful of heroic performances in crunch time. Ferrell quickly became a fan favorite as "Yogi-Mania" swept Dallas.
He will, however, have healthy competition for playing time after the Mavs used the No. 9 pick on point guard Dennis Smith Jr, likely his main rival for the starting gig.
