Report: Melo considered Wizards, 76ers, but wants to stay with son in NY
Will Carmelo Anthony stay or will he go?
New York Knicks president Phil Jackson has been open about his desire to send the forward packing, which has forced Melo to reconsider his future with his hometown club.
For months Anthony has been linked to several teams in rumors, including the Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers.
But the 33-year-old, who has a no-trade clause, may have been considering a move to somewhere closer to his hometown of New York.
According to the New York Daily News' Frank Isola, the 10-time All-Star was mulling potential moves to the Washington Wizards and Philadelphia 76ers.
It's believed those teams were on his mind due to their proximity to the Big Apple. Anthony and his wife, La La, are now estranged after Knicks-related stress reportedly led to them splitting up, and now the player is focused on remaining close to his only child, Kiyan.
Melo averaged 22.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.9 dimes in his 14th NBA season for the Knicks, who missed the playoffs for the fourth straight season in 2016-17. He has two years and about $54 million remaining on his contract.
