Celtics' Thomas hyped about signing: Hayward will help us get to NBA Finals
Isaiah Thomas is convinced his Boston Celtics were one piece away from title contention.
And now, they're getting that piece.
After months of speculation surrounding Gordon Hayward's unrestricted free agency, the All-Star announced Tuesday he's joining the C's.
Thomas, who was a huge proponent of the addition and helped in the recruiting process, zipped to Twitter to welcome his newest teammate:
And by "it," IT was referring to working together to reach the NBA Finals.
"The type of player we needed to get to the Finals," Thomas told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski about Hayward. "I'm excited and can't wait to get to work."
Boston advanced to the Eastern Conference finals this past postseason, and was eliminated by the Cleveland Cavaliers in five games. With a third All-Star-caliber player in tow, the Celtics figure to have a better shot against LeBron James and Co., but would by no means be favored, especially in their first year together.
