Knicks remain vague about prospects of trading Melo; won't buy him out

During the introductory press conference for newly appointed New York Knicks general manager Scott Perry, the topic of Carmelo Anthony's future obviously became a point of discussion.

Alongside team president Steve Mills and Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek, the brain trust behind the organization remained open to both the possibilities of trading Anthony or keeping him on board.

"If there's an opportunity that works for Melo and works for us, we'll look at a trade," said Mills, per Jonah Ballow of the Knicks' media team.

Mills acknowledged that there have been discussions with other teams regarding Melo, but noted the recent pause in those talks came out of the desire to do "the best thing for the Knicks," per ESPN's Alan Hahn.

Mills also asserted that Anthony "could easily be a part of our team next year," according to Brian Mahone of The Associated Press.

Mills did, however, give a clear answer regarding the possibility of buying Anthony out of his remaining contract, simply stating "no" when asked if he considered that an option, according to Hahn.

Though the situation around Melo remains relatively unchanged, with Perry and Mills settling into their new roles, there could soon be some progress behind these politically correct, noncommittal answers.
