Report: Suns won't include rookie Jackson in package for Irving
Kyrie Irving could soon be headed to the desert, but don't expect the Phoenix Suns to part with their recent blue-chip draft pick to bring him there.
Forward Josh Jackson, selected fourth overall by the Suns in the June draft, won't be included in any deal centered around the Cavaliers' star point guard, according to Arizona Sports 98.7's John Gambadoro.
Jackson averaged 16.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, and three assists per game in his lone collegiate season with the Kansas Jayhawks, taking the program to the regional finals of this year's March Madness tournament.
Irving has allegedly informed the Cavs' front office that he wishes to be traded, and while Phoenix wasn't among his four preferred destinations, the lack of a no-trade clause in his contract will allow Cleveland to sell him to the highest bidder - and the Suns have emerged as odds-on favorites.
In order to maintain their place among Eastern Conference contenders and maximize LeBron James' remaining time with the franchise, the Cavs would likely seek an established veteran point guard and a young asset, in addition to draft-pick compensation.
In scrappy point guard Eric Bledsoe, represented by James' agency, Klutch Sports, and the highly-touted youngster Jackson, the Suns have some of the assets needed to pull off a potential blockbuster swap.
