Cavs expect Kyrie in training camp, but admit it's a 'fluid situation'
Where will Kyrie Irving play next season? It's anybody's guess.
The Cleveland Cavaliers tried to shoot down rampant speculation that Irving wants out during general manager Koby Altman's introductory press conference Wednesday.
Altman declined to comment explicitly on any trade demands, but admitted that Irving's future with the franchise is in some doubt.
"We've had dialogue with his representation," Altman said. "It's a fluid situation and just something we're not going to address right now."
When asked directly if the organization intended to appease Irving and accommodate his trade demands, Altman gave a firm no comment.
"I don't want to talk about that," Altman said.
Irving is reportedly at odds with LeBron James and would like the opportunity to lead another franchise. The four-time All-Star approached management in recent months to make his wishes known.
The first overall pick in 2011 named Minnesota, New York, San Antonio, and Miami as his preferred destinations, but the Cavaliers are under no obligation to deal Irving since he remains under contract.
In fact, Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert said expects to see Irving in training camp.
"Right now Kyrie Irving is under contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers for two or three years depending on the last year, so as of now, he's one of our best players, and sure, we expect him to be in camp," Gilbert said.
