Raptors' Wright on Carroll's criticism: 'He knew what he was getting into'

DeMarre Carroll has openly criticized how his former team, the Toronto Raptors, ran their offense, expressing his unhappiness with the ISO-heavy schemes under head coach Dwane Casey.

Toronto's offense has been fairly consistent in how it functions, though, and, as one of his ex-teammates points out, perhaps Carroll should have done his homework prior to joining.

"No, I wasn't surprised. I knew he was frustrated, you know, it happens," Raptors guard Delon Wright told Sportsnet's Donnovan Bennett when asked about Carroll's comments. "He knew what he was getting into and what the offense was like when he signed here.

"Maybe it was more of a switch than what he realized in comparison to Atlanta. Hopefully it will be better for him in Brooklyn."

Ball movement hasn't been the Raptors' forte, with the team ranking 29th and 30th in assists, respectively, the two seasons Carroll wasn't around. In stark contrast, Atlanta finished second in that department during his final two years with the franchise.

Now a member of the Nets, Carroll joins a roster that ran the 18th-most isolation plays in 2016-17 at a frequency of 6.7 percent, while Toronto was seventh and sixth, respectively.
