Report: Cavs, Celtics to revisit trade amid concerns over Thomas' injury

An injury may be sending the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics back to the drawing board.

The Cavaliers are expected to call the Celtics on Saturday to address concerns over Isaiah Thomas' injured hip as it pertains to their blockbuster deal, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Cleveland has been internally evaluating Thomas' medical information since he underwent a physical exam Friday. If the Cavs deem he failed the physical, they can void the trade.

However, Wojnarowski's sources indicated that instead of thwarting the swap altogether over IT's hip issue, Cleveland could request further compensation from Boston before making a final decision by Thursday.

In the deal that was officially announced Tuesday night, Cleveland agreed to surrender Irving in exchange for Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, and the Brooklyn Nets' unprotected 2018 first-round pick.

Thomas, 28, suffered a hip injury in March and re-aggravated it during the Eastern Conference finals. He didn't undergo surgery to treat the ailment, instead opting for rest and rehabilitation. However, with training camp less than a month away, the explosive point guard has yet to start running.

The 5-foot-9 floor general earned his first All-NBA nod last season after averaging 28.9 points (third in the NBA), 5.9 dimes, and 2.7 rebounds per contest for the Celtics, who finished atop the East only to fall to the Cavs in the conference finals.

Celtics GM Danny Ainge admitted in a conference call Tuesday that Thomas' injury played "some" role in dealing him, adding there will be "probably a little bit of delay" for the two-time All-Star at the beginning of the upcoming campaign.

Irving's reportedly scheduled to take his physical later Saturday in Beantown.
