Iverson predicts LeBron for 2018 MVP
The Answer is a firm believer in The King.
Allen Iverson told reporters last weekend at the Seattle stop of the BIG3 league that he likes LeBron James to win his fifth MVP award next season.
"I'm gonna go with LeBron regardless," Iverson said. "I'd go with LeBron, and then it's everybody else. But there's so many great players, man. No disrespect to none of those young guys."
James is the most accomplished active player and still at the peak of his powers, but the MVP award has eluded him since 2013.
The last four trophies have gone to younger stars in Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry (twice), and Russell Westbrook, who perhaps had catchier and fresher narratives behind their campaigns in addition to stellar statistical performances. James also has a history of preserving himself to be healthy for deep playoff runs, which partially dampens his chances at regular-season awards.
But as Iverson said, the MVP could easily be given to James, who remains absolutely terrific as he rounds into his mid-thirties. He averaged 26.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 8.7 assists last season on 54.8 percent shooting from the floor and finished fourth in the award's voting.
"There's some bad little dudes that's rocking out but LeBron's always at the forefront," Iverson added.
James currently has four NBA MVP awards to his name.
