Crowder recalls mother passing away on day of Cavs trade
On August 22, it was announced that Jae Crowder was traded from the Boston Celtics to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Later that day, his mother Helen succumbed to cancer.
"There was a lot going on that day, obviously," Crowder recalled in his debut press conference as a member of the Cavaliers. "The good thing about the whole ordeal was I was able to deliver (the news) to my mom before she passed. ..."
"I told her, 'We're going to Cleveland,' and about five minutes later she passed."

After blossoming into a household name as a member of the Celtics over the past two-and-a-half seasons, Crowder was traded to the Cavaliers along with Isaiah Thomas, Ante Zizic, and draft assets for guard Kyrie Irving.
