Report: Burke backs out of deal with Thunder, will remain UFA
Trey Burke has had a change of heart.
The 24-year-old guard has elected not to sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder and instead remain an unrestricted free agent, league sources told The Vertical's Shams Charania.
His deal was reportedly non-guaranteed, meaning he would have had to compete for a roster spot in training camp.
The Michigan alumnus is entering his fifth year in the league after going ninth overall in the 2013 NBA Draft.
After spending his first three seasons with the Utah Jazz, Burke was dealt to the Washington Wizards last summer in exchange for a 2021 second-round pick. He averaged just five points and 1.8 assists on 45.5 percent shooting in a limited role for Washington, his production dwindling after the team brought on Brandon Jennings to back up starter John Wall.
He became a UFA after the Wizards chose not to extend him a qualifying offer.
