Mike Conley: Kanye called late night to say he admires my game
Mike Conley received a late-night phone call earlier this summer from a stranger who turned out to be Kanye West.
The Memphis Grizzlies point guard shared the story of the 12:30 a.m. call he received from the rapper, who apparently told Conley he admires him and hates how underrated he is.
"He actually watches me play," Conley told reporters Monday. "That's what I was thinking in my head, 'He knows a lot about me.' He wasn't reading off a paper or anything."
The talented 29-year-old floor general averaged career highs in points (20.5) and rebounds (3.5) last season to go along with 6.3 dimes for the Grizzlies, who made their seventh straight playoff appearance. The former lottery pick hasn't made an All-Star appearance in his 10 seasons, often falling short as an honorable mention in the stacked Western Conference.
But Yeezy sees potential in Conley, who was all smiles as he jokingly recounted West saying there should be more hype around him.
"I'm with you. I understand. What can we do? Help me. I'm looking for a feature or something, like put me in the background, sample some of my music."
Reach for the stars, Mike.
