Look: Nowitzki gets lunch money from fan for 6 years of 'taking discounts'
Dirk Nowitzki has left a lot of money on the table over his illustrious NBA career, so one considerate fan did what he could to repay him.
Entering his 20th training camp, the Dallas Mavericks icon received a card from a supporter that included a $20 bill and the following message:
"You been taking discounts the past 6 years to help the team bring talent and a title … LUNCH IS ON ME BIG FELLA!"

Since leading the Mavs to their first championship in 2011, Nowitzki has taken pay cuts so the club would have more money to spend on his supporting cast. But even with the 39-year-old's financial sacrifice, Dallas hasn't been able to match its former success, nor come close. The Mavericks haven't made it out of the opening round since their title run, and missed the playoffs altogether last year.
Team owner Mark Cuban awarded Nowitzki for his service and loyalty with a two-year, $50 million deal last year, and after earning half of that in 2016-17, the talented power forward accepted another two-year, $10-million contract this summer.

Nowitzki is expected to ride out the remainder of his pro career in Dallas, where it all began in 1998. The "Big Mummy" said he'll suit up for one or two more campaigns depending on how his body feels.
