Morey producing musical, unsurprisingly called 'Small Ball'
Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey is a man who wears many hats, and now you can add theater producer to the list.
Morey is producing a musical show set for a six-week spring run at Houston's Catastrophic Theater, and the subject matter is right up his alley. Aptly titled "Small Ball," the play tells the tale of a remote island country that fields a basketball team.
The problem: Everyone from the island is only six inches tall.
"We're just a bunch of friends doing this at this point," Morey told the New York Times' Scott Cacciola. "I provide the money."
In addition to being one of the NBA's foremost executives versed in analytics and non-traditional roster building, Morey considers himself a connoisseur of the arts. A trombonist in high school, he's said if he didn't work in basketball, he'd be a theater geek.
"Someday I want to live in New York and just go to shows," he said.
