Curry says he'd pick his teammates 1st in ASG draft
Is everybody down to see the Golden State Warriors take on a fantasy team of superstars? Because it might just happen at All-Star weekend 2018.
Stephen Curry says that if he were named as one of two captains for the revamped All-Star Game, his fellow Warriors teammates would be his first few picks until they're all on his side.
"Probably one of my teammates," Curry told ESPN's Chris Haynes. "Until you run out of those options, then you gotta figure it out."
Given that the Warriors sent four representatives last season, Curry's strategy could lead to an awkward imbalance. Taking Kevin Durant with his first pick would be one thing, but would Cur really select Klay Thompson and Draymond Green over a pool of players that potentially includes Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, and Anthony Davis? Or what if one of the Warriors were scooped up by the other team?
Curry isn't concerned about hurt feelings if some players are left on the board too long.
"If I'm the one picking, no. It's fun. It's a different type of setup and a different look, especially on the court. And you mix up the conferences and the different lineups you can get out there," Curry said.
"There's been All-Stars for years, and the past six years probably certain lineups and notable guys that have been playing together in the Western Conference and the Eastern Conference, and now you can switch it up a little bit.
"From a fan standpoint, I know that should be a huge storyline just to see who's playing with who and even like what they name the teams, the jerseys, the whole setup is going to be a different look, so it's going to be fun."
