Kerr apologized to Carlisle for Bell's off-the-backboard dunk
Golden State Warriors rookie Jordan Bell punctuated Monday's blowout win over the Dallas Mavericks by tossing an alley-oop to himself off the backboard.
While many of his teammates and fans were blown away by the flashy play, some were put off by it given the Dubs were up 25 points with less than three minutes remaining.
Head coach Steve Kerr tried to apologize immediately after the game to Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle, who "zipped right past, displeased" and "stormed to the locker room," according to The Mercury News' Anthony Slater.
"I just told Rick I would talk to Jordan," Kerr later explained following the 133-103 victory.
"He's a young guy. He's having fun out there. He didn't even realize he had offended anybody. The older guys on our team: Shaun (Livingston) and David (West) ... it's a different school of thought. The young guys are like, 'We're just playing basketball,' and the older guys are offended."
Draymond Green stood up for his rook, calling the dunk "dope."
"It was a great play," the All-Star forward told reporters when asked for his message to the 22-year-old center. "I don't got a message for him. Do what you do. Play basketball. That's what he did."
Green didn't think it showed bad sportsmanship, indicating that players shouldn't have to hold back based on circumstances like the score and time left on the clock.
