Westbrook shooting lower FT% than Drummond, Jordan
Russell Westbrook doesn't want to talk about his free-throw woes, but they're getting harder and harder to ignore.
The reigning MVP is turning in a career-low 59.4 percent from the charity stripe through 12 games. To put that mark into perspective, Westbrook is shooting worse than notorious Hack-a-Shaq targets DeAndre Jordan (61.1 percent) and Andre Drummond (64.2 percent).
Westbrook is typically an excellent foul shooter. He hit over 80 percent in eight out of the last nine seasons, and is also coming off the most prolific campaign of his career where he scored career highs in free-throw percentage (84.5), free-throw attempts (10.4), and in free-throw makes (8.8).
The sudden drop-off for Westbrook could be attributed to the league's recent rule changes aimed at cutting down the length of games. Players are now mandated to stay within the 3-point line between foul shots, but Westbrook has historically taken a long stroll between shots since high school.
Westbrook tweaked his routine in accordance with league rules, but was visibly frustrated when asked about his struggles from 15-feet by reporters earlier this week:
"Nah, that s--- is over," Westbrook said of his tweaked routine aimed at circumventing the new delay of game rules. "Original routine."
