Nets' Russell suffered knee contusion, reportedly out several games

The injury bug took another bite out of the Brooklyn Nets.

D'Angelo Russell has been diagnosed with a left knee contusion, the team announced Sunday.

The starting point guard suffered the injury during Saturday's contest against the Utah Jazz and will miss several games as a result, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Russell, 21, scored a game-high 26 points but limped to the locker room with less than three minutes remaining in Brooklyn's 114-106 loss.

He's averaging career highs across the board with 20.9 points, 5.7 assists, and 4.7 rebounds in his first campaign with the Nets, whom he joined from the Los Angeles Lakers in the Timofey Mozgov trade this summer.

Russell joins four other players on the IR list, including fellow guards Jeremy Lin (knee) and Spencer Dinwiddie (hamstring). Allen Crabbe and Caris LeVert could get more burn in the meantime.
